209 Buyers Registered by the Second Day of the 47th India Carpet Expo
Bhadohi, October 16, 2024 – The 47th edition of the India Carpet Expo, organized by the Carpet Export Promotion Council at the Carpet Expo Mart in Bhadohi, has received an impressive response from around the world, with 209 foreign buyers and 231 representatives registering by the second day of the expo. Notable participating countries include Australia, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, and the USA.
The expo was inaugurated on October 15, 2024, by the chief guest, Mr. Giriraj Singh, Minister of Textiles, Government of India, who lit the ceremonial lamp. Distinguished guests included Mr. Pavitram Margreta, Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs, and Mr. Rakesh Sachan, Minister of Industries of the state.
On the second day of the expo, former MP of Bhadohi, Mr. Virendra Kumar Mast, visited the fair and stated that the carpet industry is not just an industry but a lifeline. He emphasized that the weavers, primarily farmers, use agricultural products as raw materials, and thus, the carpet business should be recognized as an agricultural industry, allowing all benefits to flow to the carpet sector. He assured his support for every possible assistance at both the central and state government levels.
Mrs. Renu Lata, Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, also visited the carpet expo today, appreciating the organization of the event and the vibrant carpets on display. She noted that this expo would provide a new impetus to the carpet industry.
Hon’ble Minister of Labor and Employment, Coordination Department of UP, Mr. Anil Rajbhar, also toured the expo today and remarked that the event would offer a new direction for the carpet industry, extending best wishes to all exporters and importers.
Members of the CEPC Administration Committee reported that feedback from participating members indicated that buyers were very pleased with their interactions at the expo, expressing gratitude for providing such an international platform. This expo is held under the aegis of the Government of India, focusing on the labor-intensive Indian handmade carpet industry and providing direct or indirect employment to nearly 2 million workers/artisans, particularly women, linked to rural areas. With participation from 265 exhibitors, the India Carpet Expo is one of the largest handmade carpet fairs in Asia, offering buyers a unique platform under one roof to explore the best handmade carpets, rugs, and other flooring solutions.
CEP Chairman Mr. Kuldeep Raj Wattal, along with Administration Committee members Anil Kumar Singh, Suryamani Tiwari, Wasif Ansari, Aslam Mahboob, Imtiaz Ahmed, Rohit Gupta, Piyush Baranwal, Hussain Zafar Husseini, Sanjay Gupta, Ravi Patodia, Sheikh Aashiq Ahmed, Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Bodhraj Malhotra, Deepak Khanna, Mehraj Yaseen Jan, Mukesh Kulmar Gombar, Shaukat Khan, and Mr. Jagmohan, Executive Director Secretary, CEP, expressed their satisfaction with the expo.
The successful organization of the international carpet fair was supported by Commissioner Mr. Muthukumar Swamy B, DIG Rakesh Prakash Singh, ADG Mr. Ramkumar IPS, District Magistrate Bhadohi Mr. Vishal Singh, Superintendent of Police Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan, ADM Mr. Kuvar Virendra Maurya, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Tejveer Singh, and all administrative officials, who provided substantial support for the fair’s security arrangements.
Chairman Mr. Kuldeep Raj Wattal stated that the success of the fair depends on the business transactions between foreign importers and participating exporters. According to preliminary reports, participating exporters are very pleased with the business conducted over the two days, and the CEPC Chairman is hopeful that this expo will prove to be a successful event.
