41st India Carpet Expo – Concluded Successfully.

 

The 3rd Virtual Edition of 41st India Carpet Expo an exclusive trade fair for Handmade carpets and other floor-coverings, Organized by Carpet Export Promotion Council which was inaugurated on 27th January, 2021 by Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) has received overwhelming response from around 292 overseas buyers from 51 countries and 81 Buying Representatives/ Buying Houses from across the world in 5 days of the Expo. 150+ prominent Member-Exporters from major carpet belt of Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur, Panipat, Jammu & Kashmir are participating.  The 5 day Expo concluded in the midnight of 31st January, 2021 successfully.

 

Top 5 Visitor Countries were USA, Germany, Australia, U.K., Canada. Response of the Exhibitors are encouraging, almost every participant have substantial Video Conferencing Meetings with overseas buyers and buying representatives.

As per the feedback received from the Exhibitors – There are huge demand of Hand-knotted high end carpets as well as tufted Carpets.

 

Shri Siddh Nath Singh mentioned that  this is start of new era  which opens  the global business opportunities for the Handmade Carpet Industry with the use of new technology, the success of this Expo will proved to be the mile stone.

 

During the Expo Council organized Webinar on “Importance of Trend Insights in Design of Handmade Carpet & Rugs” for the benefit of the participants and Member-Exporters.

 

CEPC arranged an interactive Webinar on Importance of Trend Insights in Design of Handmade Carpet & Rugs  on 21st January, 2021 in association with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and World University of Design. Colour and Design forecast plays an important role in the present market scenario and help the manufacturers and Exporters to assess the requirement of the consumers/ market and their taste. Ms. Mudita Mishra, Additional Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) was the Chief Guest of the Webinar.

 

Shri Sunil Sethi, Managing Director of M/s Sunil Sethi Design Alliance & Alliance Merchandising Co. and past  Chairman, Fashion Design Council of India mentioned that exponential growth of the sector is fully attributed to the diversification of market and innovation of new products wherein design plays a very important role.  This  element is lacking in this sector and we should try to develop world class design centre so that exporters should not be dependent on overseas Buyer’s contribution towards design.

 

Shri Sohan Kumar Jha, Sr. Director O/o. the DC (Handicrafts) assured his full support and assistance  to the Council for setting up of World Class Design Centre to cater the requirement of the industry.

 

Shri Sanjay Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, World University of Design in his key note address mentioned that our industry is not getting the actual value of our products and stressed the need for setting up of Common Design Centre and creating unique identify and branding  of Indian Products.  Today, we are capable of making carpets as per the requirement of the buyer in different style, size and design but identity of Indian brand is missing he gave the example of Apparel industry where after intervention of 2 decades from job worker India is now established its Identity and consumers are asking for Indian Brand apparel unfortunately it is not happen in Carpets. In the present scenario Designers are very important and worthy and can increase our business manifold. In the coming years we require to prepare special strategy to retain in the market and to go one step further by creating a bigger intervention for creating a online Virtual platform for catering the requirement of carpets and floor coverings in international market.

 

Dr. Kaustav SenGupta ,Associate Professor NIFT, Chennai and Dr Shalini Sood Sehgal Prof., NIFT, New Delhi made a power point presentation on Importance of Trend Insights in Design of Handmade Carpet & Rugs and requested Members to create their own design to communicate the feelings, environment, cultural appropriation in design, learn to appreciate and use what is available locally, material innovation in design. Need to create a product as per the  mindset of end consumer by using human intelligence with Artificial Intelligence. Strategy will vary for each product and market.

 

Dr. SenGupta and Dr. Shalini Sood were appreciated for their presentation giving a line of thought how one can create his own story. Story line and story telling is very important.

 

Ms. Parul Singh suggested for creation of USP for Indian products and designing is very important fact and need to use designing capability in presenting your products to the buyers and to create your own story and products.

 

For the Second  time Council organized “Design Awards – 2021” in the third  Virtual Exhibition – 41st India Carpet Expo on 30th January, 2021 through video conferencing with a view to appreciate and recognize the  hard work of participants especially the younger generation in the industry for their participation in Virtual Exhibition – 41st India Carpet Expo organized by CEPC. 7 Members Selection Committee/ Juries of  eminent Designers and Professors and eminent personalities in the field of Fashion and designing selected the Awardees.

 

 

It has emerged once again undisputedly that India Carpet Expo has established as Asia’s biggest Handmade carpet show with its ever growing patronage from buyers all over the world. India Carpet Expo provides tremendous business opportunities for participating manufacturers and exporters as prominent Overseas Handmade Carpet Buyers from all over the world are attending this Expo. It also provides an excellent opportunity for the importers of carpets to meet exporters from all over India under one roof and to pick-up the latest products of innovation and trends and place on the spot orders.
