42nd Edition of India Carpet Expo Kicks-off today at NSIC Ground Okhla, New Delhi, Exporters Hope Manifold Growth
# More than 195 exhibitors at Expo
# India’s carpet industry has seen exponential growth
# To benefit, buyers, exporters, artisans and weavers.
New Delhi, 25 March, 2022
The 42nd Edition of India Carpet Expo has been inaugurated at NSIC Ground Okhla, New Delhi.
The Expo is organized under the aegis of Govt. of India with an aim to promote the Cultural Heritage and weaving skills of Indian hand-made Carpets and other floor coverings amongst the visiting overseas carpet buyers.
Shri U.P. Singh, IAS, Secretary (Textiles), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India had unveiled the curtain raiser event of the Expo on 24th March, 2022 in the presence of Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India.
Shri U.P. Singh mentioned, “We are very glad that CEPC organizes this Expo twice every year to promote Indian weavers worldwide. Every year Expo generates a huge amount of business. We have everything handmade and hand weaved here, which is the major attraction to the foreign buyers.”
Shri Shantmanu, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) , Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India, appreciated the efforts made by the Chairman and Committee of Administration in organizing the India Carpet Expo 2022 on such a large scale and expressed hope that the benefit will ultimately go to the artisans and weavers.
Mr. Umar Hameed, Chairman, CEPC said “India carpet expo is an ideal platform for International Carpet Buyers, Buying houses, buying Agents, Architects and Indian Carpet Manufacturers & Exporters to meet and establish long term business relationship. Such exhibitions are crucial for promoting exports of Handmade carpets.”
Mr. Umar Hameed further added that voluminous export orders are expected to be executed. New fall-winter colors and designs are being showcased at the Carpet Expo.
Ms. Shubra, Trade Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India visited the fair today and expressed her happiness over the excellent arrangements made by the organizers and the response of the overseas buyers.
A foreign delegate said, ” It opens the global business opportunities for the Handmade Carpet Industry with the use of new technology, the success of this Expo will proved to be the milestone. We are happy to be a part of this much awaited mega expo in India.”
An exhibitor said, “India’s carpet industry has seen exponential growth of the sector which is fully attributed to the diversification of market and innovation of new products wherein design plays a very important role. We hope manifold growth with this expo.”
India Carpet Expo is one of the largest Handmade Carpet Fairs in Asia with a unique platform for the buyers to source the best handmade carpets, rugs, and other floor coverings under one roof. With the participation of 195 exhibitors, it has become a popular destination worldwide on Handmade Carpets.
A record number of 118 overseas carpet buyers from around 27 countries mainly from America, Europe , South America and Asian countries such as Japan, Singapore, Qatar etc have come for the mega expo. 125 Buying Representatives and registered their presence on the first day of the fair.
It is the endeavour of the Council to provide an exclusive business environment to both carpet importers as well as manufacturer-exporters, which ultimately will benefit about 2 million weavers and artisans employed in this highly labour-intensive rural-based MSME cottage industry.
Committee Members while interacting with the buyers experienced buyers were feeling very free from the fear of COVID-19 being in the show.
