Meeting with Hon’ble Commerce & Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal
On, the 26th May, 2020, Department of Commerce convened a meeting of Hon’ble Commerce & Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal with Chairman’s of all EPC. Dr. Anup Wadhawan, IAS, Commerce Secretary, Shri Amit Yadav, DGFT and other Senior Officials were present in the meeting.
Shri Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC taken up the following issues on behalf of Indian Handmade Carpet Industry before the Hon’ble CIM and other senior officials:
- To make arrangements for early clearance of pending GST and DBK Claims of Members in spite of repeated assurances Members are not getting the payments of their pending DBK and GST claims.
- Interest subvention to Small Exporters registered as MSME – Although the RBI vide notification dated 13th May, 2020 extends the scheme upto 31 March, 2021 but bankers are not granting the 20% extra limit as announced by the Govt. to the exporters.
- To increase the Import Duty on Carpets as lot of Machine-made carpets are importing from Belgium, Turkey and China and the duty is very low, we request to impose import duty @ the level of 200%.
Chairman, CEPC mentioned that in the COVID – 19 scenario our major market i.e. US and Europe is badly affected and it will take at least 6-9 months to re-start the export and wish to explore the domestic market to save the livelihood of weavers/ artisans and to save the industry in the hour of crises.
