Meeting with RoDTEP Committee

Govt. has proposed to replace the MEIS scheme with Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) Scheme and formed a Committee Chaired by Shri G.K. Pillai to finalize the rates/benefit to the industries.

 

Today, 10th December, 2020 – Department of Finance convened a meeting of high level RoDTEP Committee through Video Conferencing under the Chairmanship of Shri G.K. Pillai, Chairman, RoDTEP Committee, Shri Gautam Ray, Shri Y.G. Parande, Members RoDTEP Committee, Shri Nitesh Sinha, Joint Secretary, Drawback, Ministry of Finance and other Senior Officials were present. Representatives of some of Export Promotion Councils were also present in the meeting.

 

Shri Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC, Shri Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director, CEPC, Prominent Member-Exporters – Shri Lalit Goel, President, Panipat Exporters Association & M/s Riveria Exports, Panipat, Shri Ashok Gupta, M/s ABC Ltd., Panipat,  Shri Atul Anand, M/s Obeetee Pvt. Ltd., Mirzapur, CEPC consultant – Shri N.K. Chopra, Managing Director, M/s  ICCH Global Consulting (P) Ltd. represented the Indian Handmade Carpet Industry in the meeting.

 

Shri Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC informed the Committee that Council has already submitted the required data in the prescribed formats and also submitted the clarifications sought by the department.  Shri Siddh Nath Singh further requested to consider the case of Indian Handmade Carpet Industry sympathetically as it is rural based cottage industry which is highly labour intensive and mostly unorganized sector as the livelihood of millions of poor artisans are directly connected with the industry. Mr. Singh further requested that the RoDTEP rate should be higher than the present MEIS rates to improve the present industry scenario.

 

Shri G.K. Pillai, Chairman, RoDTEP Committee mentioned that they know the Indian Handmade Carpet Industry and is very close to their heart and definitely we will keep into consideration. Shri G.K. Pillai enquired about the condition of road in Bhadohi-Mirzapur-Varanasi Carpet Belt. Shri Siddh Nath Singh informed that there are some improvements and hopefully the remaining work will be completed shortly. As per the Officials of the RoDTEP Committee, they will likely to submit its final report by February, 2021, therefore, it is expected that MEIS Scheme will be further extended till 31st March, 2021.

 

Officials assured that they are examining all the data submitted by Councils and if required they will take further inputs before finalizing the rates.
