Today 20th October, 2020, As per guidance of Shri Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC, in order to educate member exporters about the various testing for Carpets sector as per the requirements of various importing countries, Carpet Export Promotion Council organized a Webinar on “CARPET TESTING”
Shri Umer Hameed, 2nd Vice-Chairman, CEPC, Shri Abdul Rub, Shri Bodh Raj Malhotra, Shri Husain Jafar Husaini, Shri Shree Ram Maurya, Members COA and Shri Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director, CEPC were present in the Webinar.
Shri Umer Hameed, 2nd Vice-Chairman, CEPC welcome all the Members and experts in the Webinar and expressed hope that the Webinar will be beneficial for the Indian Handmade Carpet Industry.
Mr. Minhazuddin SHEIKH, Deputy General Manager – TGRC R&D Head, Technical Governance & Regulatory Compliance (TGRC), M/s TÜV SÜD South Asia Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon a Germany based testing company made power point presentations on the different testing requirements and regulations in the US & European Markets – Carpet compliance and standards, add value, inspire and trust
Dr. R.K. Malik, Dean, Associate Professor and Technical Manager, Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT), Bhadohi made a presentation on the different testing facilities available in IICT, accreditation of IICT Laboratory reports, advantages of testing – assure quality and as per customer requirement, develop customer confidence on our products, reduce the wastages and optimization of the process.
During the question answer session the participants came out with queries and their queries were replied by esteemed speakers. Some Members enquire about the availability of fiber testing facility which is necessary to maintain the standard of the products. Shri Rajesh further mentioned antibacterial testing will be required in coming days. Shri Rajesh Kumar from M/s Jaipur Rugs enquired about additional testing requirement in EU and USA due to COVID-19 scenario. Some Members enquire about the validity of the testing reports.
Dr. R.K. Malik also informed the participants about the “Kaleen Bandhu Scheme” of IICT for Exporters. After becoming member under Kaleen Bandhu Scheme Members are eligible for 20% discount on all testing charges, publication, soft-ware and design developed at IICT, 10% discount on consultancy fee & charges, Free access to library for reference, liaison by IICT team for consultancy etc.
Shri Sanjay Kumar informed the Members that Council is issuing the Kaleen Labels – The Hallmark of Commitment” label for all handmade carpets, druggets, dhuries etc. signifying that the user of “KALEEN” label is abiding by the Code of Conduct adopted by the Carpet Export Promotion Council for the eradication of child labour. He further informed that the Kaleen Labels are available in all the offices of the Council and the cost is very nominal, Council and Govt. of India is going to launch a special drive to popularize the “Kaleen Labels” and requested Members to use Kaleen Labels on all their carpets and other floor coverings.
Shri Sanjay Kumar, ED-Secy., CEPC mentioned that regulations are important and sooner or later we have to complied with the same for EU and USA which is our major market, although in carpet industry we have already adopted the set pattern but it is the need of the hour that we have to do the compliance as per the norms.
Shri Husain Jafar Husain, Member COA, CEPC conveyed formal vote of thanks on behalf of the Carpet Export Promotion Council.
Shri Husaini further mentioned that although there are various facilities available in IICT at affordable rates and there is need to improve the response time from IICT by creating a separate marketing cell which will not only be beneficial to the Members but also increase the revenue for the IICT.
Finally CEPC requested Members to send their suggestions on the testing facilities they required in IICT which is their own institute by the Govt. of India and Council will definitely recommend the same in IICT upgradation plan and assure for quick response from the IICT, Bhadohi.
